Camley Street Natural Park is a hidden gem not far from London King's Cross rail station.

If you are typical London tourist like me, you probably have not heard of this hidden natural sanctuary. I have used London King's Cross many times for work and leisure and have not come across this nature reserve. I work in a team that is geographically diverse and we try to meet in person at least once a year. So, in 2013 it was in London and more specifically, Camley Street Natural Park for business, which is followed by a quick canal trip from Little Venice to Camden Lock for team-building.

The natural park was quite a surprise. A five-minute walk along a very busy and noisy street from London King's Cross, inside the park is a soothing, peaceful and quiet place. The trees that lines the park's fence cuts off the view and noise of the streets. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy London even for a short time, then Camley Street Natural Park is the place to go.

From its website, this is a description of Camley Street Natural Park:
A wild oasis nestled between two of London’s busiest railway stations and beside Regent’s Canal, this reserve was created from wasteland and is now a haven for diverse wildlife.

Camley Street Natural Park is a unique urban nature reserve, surrounded by significant new development in a bustling part of central London - between King's Cross and St Pancras.

The woodland, grassland and wetland habitats including ponds, reedbed and marshy areas, provide a rich habitat for birds, butterflies, amphibians and plant life, while a visitor centre caters for the thousands who visit annually.

The reserve provides additional habitat along Regent’s Canal, with enhancements being made to soften the canal banks through installation of wildlife islands and marginal aquatic plants to provide habitat for birds, fish, and aquatic invertebrates.
